Landtenure.info: A new online information and knowledge-archive providing the basic elements on land tenure systems
The International Food Security Network Project (IFSN) leaded by Action Aid (AAI) launched a new initiative (www. landtenure.info), a web-based archive on land tenure information. The site is already acessible and was previously presented in a meeting hold in Brussels on 22 February 2006 at the presence of the European Commission and FAO officers.
“For the first time, a neutral decision-support tool regrouping and organizing a broad range of dispersed, public information on land tenure systems, land legislation, land policies and other land tenure information, is available on the Internet”, said Francisco Sarmento, global coordinator of the International Food Security Network Project.
The landternure.info initiative, promoted by AAI/IFSN, with the technical collaboration of FAO, aims to raise public awareness on the importance of land tenure for rural development and make available information for decision-making.
Landtenure.info will provide CSOs, NGOs, rural land administrations, extension agents, International Organizations, governments, universities and the public at large with the most up-to-date and organized information on the evolving agrarian structures of selected countries.
Landtenure.info will be a useful instrument to implement and monitor land tenure policies and programmes, improve access to land to rural poor people and advocate for agrarian reforms. It will also be a valuable resource for land tenure literacy and training, universities and development practitioner’s investigations, capacity building and communication and other land related issues.
The Landtenure.info team welcomes all interested organizations to participate in the initiative.
