E-Conference : Thème 5 Print

Theme 5: Agrarian reform, social justice and sustainable development

Dear ICARRD e-conference Participants,

ICARRD Issue Paper 4. Draft for discussion

For this theme discussion, I am pleased that we have the technical support of Mr. Paolo Groppo from the FAO Land Tenure Service, Rural Development Division.

For this topic, we suggest to lead the discussion through the following questions:

1. For those of you who have been part of the World Conference on Agrarian Reform and Rural Development (WCARRD) that was held in 1979, we would like for you to share with us your reflections about the WCARRD Peasant Charter and relevant developments since then.

2. Please tell us your own opinion and your own experiences for the rationale why we should promote agrarian reform.

3. What is the contribution of agrarian reform to sustainable development?

4. How does agrarian reform affect social justice?

5. In your opinion, what is the role and importance of people’s participation in negotiating the implementation of agrarian reform?

6. What are the lessons learned that you can share with us in the implementation or non-implementation of agrarian reform in your country?

7. What should be the priority areas that should be tackled in the future to address agrarian reform?

We look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,

Rosalud de la Rosa
