Delegations from 92 FAO Member States participated in the Conference. International organizations such as FAO and IFAD were also represented at the highest level.

      On the second day of the Conference, 8th March, ICARRD paid homage to rural women, in honour of the International Women’s Day.  A women’s march ended at the plenary room, with two representatives reading out a declaration.

      Women’s limited access to land and natural resources was one of the recurrent items for discussion at ICARRD and the NGO Forum. Recommendations were made by the Conference and the NGO Forum to overcome these limits.

The ICARRD Declaration is the result of a constructive dialogue and fruitful collaboration between governments, international institutions and social movements present at ICARRD.

Civil Society Organizations and Social Movements have played a crucial role in the success of the ICARRD, and their active and at times scenic has indeed been an innovative dimension of the Conference.

The official Conference and the Civil Society Forum complimented and communicated with each other. Civil Society representatives participated in ICARRD as Observers, but also contributed directly to the conference through statements, position papers and case studies presented at ICARRD during regular sessions and as side events.

Civil society representatives participated in two panels of the Official conference and made made statements at ICARRD plenary sessions on two occasions: at the end of a women farmers’ march on World Women’s Day and on the conclusion of the Civil Society Forum.
